As some of you may have noticed, since the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair I have raised my prices, and I thought it would be a good idea to tell you why.
Like many designer/makers, I have always found pricing my work to be a really stressful process, and raising them has definitely not been a decision I have taken lightly. After lots of advice and help from the GNCCF organisers, fellow exhibitors and my lovely customers, I now have more confidence in my abilities. Lots of people have encouraged me to value my work more highly, so I’ve decided to listen to them.
I now take into account everything that goes into creating each of my pieces and I’m really hoping to make my little business work. I hope that I can realistically make it my full time career and I’m very excited about what the future holds.
I don’t plan to make my work any less accessible though. I’m trying to broaden my range, creating smaller pieces starting at £20, including earrings and a range of smaller accessories. These will all be given the same care and attention, and be made from the same quality yarns as always, but will take less time to make with the use of simpler techniques.
At the same time I’ll be creating higher-end pieces that involve more complex designs and incorporate sterling silver, which is something I’ve been looking forward to working with for a long time. I will be sending these off to my stockists soon, and also listing them in my shop.
(Now listed in my Etsy shop – THE FEATHERED TALISMAN – £28)
You’ll see some changes to my site and shop soon. As a lot of you know, our beloved Etsy has changed, and you only need to search ‘bib necklaces’ to be confronted by the same mass-produced design sold by 10 different shops for £3.14. These changes to Etsy’s policies aren’t good news for creators of original work, and it’s led me to develop my own shop.
I’ll soon have my own online shop space where you can buy my work, and I’ll send out the link when it’s finished.
I want to thank all you lovely people, everyone who has supported me through my Facebook page and my Etsy shop. You have given me so much amazing feedback over the last two years. It’s been quite overwhelming at times and has really helped me grow in confidence.
So as a massive thank you, I’ll be offering a 50% discount with a special coupon code to use in my Etsy shop, valid 15th, 16th and 17th Nov. If you’d like to take advantage of this offer please use coupon code ‘CHRISTMAS50‘ at the Etsy checkout page when placing your order.
Thank you again everyone, I hope you all stick around as it’s great having feedback from you all, and I don’t feel like a crazy woman knitting alone in my room!
